Soccer

Our Learners have grown from strength to strength as the season has played out. The learners have progressed from bees attracted to the honey pot to now knowing what a defender, left and right-wing" and mid-fielder is. Our coaches are well trained and know everything about the game. We currently compete in a variety of competitions such as the National Denon Cup and our Johannesburg league.

Netball

At Greenside Primary the girls have the opportunity to play and compete in Netball from U7 up to U13. The U7, U8 and U9 girls play mini-netball and the U10 to U13 girls play normal netball. The girls attend practice twice a week and some of them practice during breaks to improve their skills. Our netball teams compete in the Johannesburg Netball League.

Athletics

All learners take part in our Annual Athletics Trials which are usually at the end of term 2. The best runners are then selected to join the school athletics team. We teach them discipline, how to train at home and how to work as a team. We currently compete in the Johannesburg Athletics league with over 20 schools.

Swimming

As well as being fun, swimming is a great way to keep fit, well and make friends. At Greenside all of our learners enjoy this benefit as all of them are given the chance to be part of our school swimming team. We annually host swimming trials, and all the learners who make it will be part of our school team. We currently compete in the Johannesburg League.

Cricket

Cricket is one of the most popular games worldwide. No other game has seen as much craze and fan following as this one. Playing cricket requires a lot of physical stamina and a good presence of mind. At Greenside, our Grade 4s and 5s play as one team, and Grade 6s and 7s play as one team. They enjoy the benefits of having well-trained coaches and good-quality playgrounds.

Robotics

Robotics might be a known physical extra-mural, but it definitely challenges you mentally. Our learners are exposed to a variety of competitions both nationally and internationally. Our facilitators are well trained as we always come top in all competitions in South Africa.

Hockey

Hockey as an extramural school activity offers various benefits to children. It promotes physical fitness, enhancing cardiovascular health and overall well-being. Through teamwork and collaboration, children develop social skills, discipline, and time management. Playing hockey encourages goal setting and achievement, fostering resilience and good sportsmanship. The sport also contributes to mental well-being, stress relief, and the development of leadership skills. Overall, hockey instills a love for an active lifestyle and provides a platform for holistic development in children.

Chess

Chess as an extramural school activity offers numerous benefits to children. It enhances cognitive skills, including critical thinking, problem-solving, and strategic planning. Playing chess promotes patience, concentration, and memory improvement. Children develop foresight and learn to make decisions with consequences. The game fosters sportsmanship, as players experience both wins and losses. Chess also contributes to improved academic performance and can be a valuable tool for socialization, helping children make friends and build a sense of community. Overall, chess as an extracurricular activity provides intellectual stimulation and contributes to the well-rounded development of a child.

Choir

Choir as an extramural school activity offers several benefits to children. It enhances their musical and vocal abilities, fostering a love for music. Participation in a choir promotes teamwork and collaboration as children learn to harmonize with others. The activity boosts confidence and self-esteem through public performances, improving stage presence and communication skills. Choir also provides a sense of belonging and community, fostering social connections among participants.

Visual Art

Engaging in visual arts as an extramural school activity offers various benefits to children. It encourages creativity and self-expression, allowing children to explore and communicate their ideas visually. Participation in visual arts enhances fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination through activities like drawing and painting.
