The Department of Education has advised that pilot programmes in coding will start at some schools from 2020. Coding will soon become a subject offered at all SA Schools. We would like to get a head-start by introducing it as an extramural. Some of the teachers at our school will be trained to teach coding. There will be a cost of R200 per child per year. At the end of each level the child will receive a Certificate of Competency.

Coding Languages

Coding, sometimes called computer programming, is how we communicate with computers. Code tells a computer what actions to take, and writing code is like creating a set of instructions. By learning to write code, you can tell computers what to do or how to behave in a much faster way. Here is a list of coding languages we teach at our school.

The HyperText Markup Language, or HTML is the standard markup language for documents designed to be displayed in a web browser.

Cascading Style Sheets is a style sheet language used for describing the presentation of a document written in a markup language such as HTML.

JavaScript, often abbreviated as JS, is a programming language that conforms to the ECMAScript specification. JavaScript is high-level and multi-paradigm.
